1st-- DATE: November 2005 
        LOCATION: Aimen, France 
        RECIPIENT: 36 y/o woman 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: Dog bite
        POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        STATUS: Excellent      
        
2nd-- DATE: April, 2006 
        LOCATION: Xi’an, China 
        RECIPIENT: 30 y/o male 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: Bear bite
        POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        STATUS: Graft failed due to medication non-compliance 2years 8months post-transplant resulting in patient's death due to complications.     
 
3rd-- DATE: March , 2008
        
 LOCATION: Paris, France 
        
 RECIPIENT: 30 y/o male 
        
 CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: neurofibromatosis
        
 POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        
 STATUS: Patient recovering
 
4th-- DATE: December, 2008 
        LOCATION: Cleveland, USA 
        RECIPIENT: 46 y/o female 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: Gun shot
        POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        STATUS: Patient recovering 
 
5th-- DATE: March, 2009 
        LOCATION: Paris, France 
        RECIPIENT: 28 y/o male 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: Gun shot
        POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        STATUS: Patient recovering 
 
6th-- DATE: April, 2009 
        LOCATION: Boston, USA 
        RECIPIENT: 59 y/o male 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY:  
Electrical  burn
        POST TRANSPLANT: Several episodes of acute rejection reversed with adjustment of immunosuppression medications.
        STATUS: Patient 
 recovering

7th-- DATE: April, 2009 
        LOCATION: Paris, France 
        RECIPIENT: 30 y/o male 
        CAUSE OF DEFORMITY: Severe burns. Both face and both hands transplanted

The Plastic Surgery Research Laboratories at the University of Louisville conduct clinically applicable research focused on developing better treatments for patients. 

Our research team consists of clinical and basic science faculty, research fellows, and medical students from diverse educational and training backgrounds.

We work together identifying clinical problems, designing experimental protocols, developing animal models, performing experiments, collecting/organizing/evaluating and interpreting data and publishing and presenting our findings in scientific journals and scientific meetings.

Our research focuses on facial and hand transplantation, ischemia/reperfusion Injury, dynamic myoplasty and microcirculation.
