Claudio Maldonado, PhD
claudio.maldonado@louisville.edu

Claudio
Maldonado, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Departments
of Physiology and Surgery and Co-Director of the Plastic
Surgery Research Laboratories at the University of
Louisville. Dr. Maldonado’s research interests involve
composite tissue auto- and allo-transplantation.
Specifically, his research focuses on developing novel
therapies that protect the endothelial barrier from
ischemia/reperfusion injury following tissue
transplantation. His laboratory has developed a novel
technology to rapidly deliver drugs to the surface of cells.
One application of this technology consists of delivering
anti-complement and anti-thrombotic targeted therapies to
protect grafts from ischemia/reperfusion induced damage. Dr.
Maldonado serves as a reviewer for various scientific
journals including the American Journal of Physiology, the
Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and the Journal of Surgical
Research. He also serves as an ad hock member of the
immunology NIH Study Section for SBIR applications. |
