Allen Furr, PhD

Dr. Allen Furr is Department Chair and Associate Professor of sociology at the University of Louisville. He is also an associate with the Department of Epidemiology and Information Sciences at Louisville’s School of Medicine. Dr. Furr did his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University at Commerce and after receiving graduate degrees
in sociology from Stephen F. Austin University and Louisiana State University, he completed an M.S.S.W. with an emphasis in mental health from the University of Louisville. In addition to his academic work, he is an experienced psychotherapist.
Dr. Furr’s research focuses on two areas: the sociology of mental health and sociological aspects of genetics. His recent work has been published in such journals as Genetic Testing, International Journal of Social Psychiatry, Journal of Infection Control, and the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry.
Dr. Furr’s primary teaching areas are the sociology of mental health, sociology of health and medicine, and research methods. |
